Fuentes Elementary Library

GENERAL OBJECTIVES:

· Encourage appreciation and enjoyment of literature

· Provide developmentally appropriate lessons in accordance with student characteristics, prior learning, library objectives, and classroom units or skills

· Offer a balanced collection that supports our curriculum as well as students’ needs and interests and offer a multicultural collection that reflects a diverse community

· Plan and implement activities based on the HCISD library curriculum

· Enable students to demonstrate self-direction in independent library use, as developmentally appropriate

 

 

FACILITY & COLLECTION:

Fuentes Elementary School library is staffed with a full-time librarian and a full-time library technician.  The library is a fully-automated facility with eleven search stations available for teachers and students to use.  All the computers have internet access and have Destiny Catalog as the online catalog program.  We offer the best in children’s picture books and fiction books and have an extensive collection of nonfiction books.  Our reference section includes encyclopedia sets, student dictionaries, and specialty books.  In addition to books, other items made available are videos, DVDs, equipment, books-on-tape, big books, and periodicals.
