Physical Education 2006 – 2007
Greetings from the Negley Elementary School Physical Education Department! We are looking forward to having your child in our class this year. Our goal is to make learning fun and safe for each child. It is also our goal to help each child develop physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally. We strive to promote a positive self-image as well as skill improvement through variety of activities. These activities will be cooperative in nature and will help improve teamwork and sportsmanship skills.
Each lesson will focus on one of the five areas listed below:
1. Lifetime Sport Skills
Students will learn skills that can be enjoyed throughout life.
Students will be provided opportunities to play cooperatively for recreation.
3.
Tumbling and Gymnastics
Students will develop strength, balance, coordination, and body control through various activities.
Students will apply movement concepts and principles to the learning and development of motor skills.
Students will work to develop cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, and flexibility. The students will be able to understand the benefits from involvement in daily physical activity and factors that affect physical performance. A fitness test will be administered several times throughout the year for the students to see their progress.
Elementary PE will be based on effort, sportsmanship, and participation.
In order for your child to experience the high level of success, we require that:
1. Only flat soled tennis shoes be worn daily (during PE time)
2. Girls wear shorts underneath their skirts or dress
3. All students participate and do their best
4. When a child cannot participate due to illness or injury, a note from a parent or doctor’s instructions must be sent to the school. Students who fail to participate 3 consecutive days due to illness or injury may be required to turn in a doctor’s excuse.
The P.E. Department’s main focus is that your child be active during the 45 minutes of class and that children have fun while becoming fit. It is very important that they get this exercise each and every day. Your support is very much appreciated.
