Integrating the Tech Apps TEKS

Purpose

The Technology Applications TEKS are mandated by the TEA for all middle school grades 6-8 students. Although all HCISD 6th graders take a one semester Computer Applications class (starting with the Fall 2009 sememster), students' achievement of these TEKS is reported based on results of a benchmark test administered at the end of the 8th grade year; consequently, it is important for technology to be integrated throughout the curriculum in all subject areas during all 3 middle school years to help students to continue to improve their 21st Century skills.

Overview

The technology applications will be split between the core curriculum areas, with each core subject teacher asked to complete at least one technology project addressing a particular Technology Application area per semester, as described below. Keyboarding will be addressed by all subject areas as the default sponge activity when students complete other computer lab assignments and have additional time to spend in the lab.
